Epilogi Choirs

Epilogi has been presented in the cultural life of Cyprus through its choirs (Musical Workshop, Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, Female Ensemble “Cantus Novus Femina” and Mixed Choir).

 

Our choirs have participated in international festivals and choral competitions and have been awarded significant prizes.

Angelina Nicolaidou - Conductor 

She graduated at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Debrecen, Hungary from the class of Sándor Berkesi (conducting) and Zsolt Szesztay (theory), with a degree in Music Pedagogy, Theory, Song and Music Teaching and Choir Conducting.

 

She has been working in Limassol as a secondary school Music teacher, as well as a school choir and orchestra conductor.

She has lectured in seminars organised by the Cyprus Ministry of Education, the Pedagogical Institute, the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute of Music in teaching and choir conducting.

 

From 2008 until 2013 she was the Conductor of the choral groups of the Limassol Music High School.

 

She teaches subjects of choral music and is the conductor of the European University of Cyprus choir.

 

She is the Artistic Director and Conductor of all the choral groups of “Epilogi Cultural Movement of Limassol”.

With the “Epilogi” choirs she has taken part in various festivals and competitions in Cyprus and abroad, Greece, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Serbia, Lebanon, Austria and Hungary. Under her direction, the Children’s and Youth Choirs  have been awarded  bronze, silver and gold medals in international competitions.

Epilogi Mixed Choir

The Choir was founded in March of 2000 and is composed of approximately 50 members.                     

 

Has participated in a variety of events both in Cyprus and abroad (Greece, Italy, France, Hungary and Austria). Within the framework of international partnerships with other choirs, members of the choir have participated in workshops and concerts in countries such as Czech Republic, United Kingdom and Poland.

 

The Choir has appeared with significant Choirs and Orchestras from Cyprus and abroad.

A team from the Choir, together with the “Epilogi Youth Choir” took part in presenting distinguished works, such as “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff (at the “KYPRIA” Festival, with the “Concert Orchestra” from Budapest), “Sunrise Mass” by contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjielo, with a String Orchestra (at the “RIALTO” Theatre in Limassol), and on December of 2014 participated in the “KYPRION SYNAVLIA” that took place in Vienna Austria.

The Choir’s repertoire includes classical works from the Renaissance up to the 20thcentury, works of contemporary Cypriot and Greek composers, as well as adaptations of Cypriot traditional music and traditional music of the world.

 

Conductor of the Choir, since April 2009, is Angelina Nicolaidou, who is also the Artistic Director of “Epilogi Cultural Movement of Limassol”.

Cantus Novus Femina

CNF is a female vocal ensemble founded in the Spring of 2015. It is one of the choral groups of EPILOGI Cultural Movement. It is comprised of professional musicians, and/or individuals with extensive experience in singing, choral or otherwise. Its goal is to tackle and gracefully deliver demanding pieces of choral music.
 

Cantus Novus Femina has participated in events organised by EPILOGI Cultural Movement, such as 'A Festive Gloria', 'Ymnoi Aggelon se Rythmous Anthropon', 'A Trip to the World', and 'La La World' with Concordia Quartet. Cantus Novus Femina also took part in 'The Magic of Christmas' with soprano Aliki Chrysochou, and in 'Together on Stage', a showcase of distinguished Cypriot ensembles and artists organised by the Patticheion Theatre.

In May 2018 Cantus Novus Femina performed 4 original choral works and arrangements by Cypriot composers (Christos Stavrinides, Christos Manos and Marios Marcou) at the concert “Kypriaki Serenata”. 

In July of 2018, Cantus Novus Femina attended Europa Cantat XX International Choral Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, where they performed the world premiere of Argentinian composer Santiago Vero's 'Almas de Barro'. 

In September 2018 the ensemble participated in a concert held by the renowned German a capella quintet “Vocaldente”.

In October 2018 Cantus Novus Femina performed at the ceremony where EPILOGI Cultural Movement was granted the  “Costas Partasides – Vassos Papadopoulos” award.

 

The artistic director of Cantus Novus Femina is Mrs. Angelina Nicolaidou.

EPILOGI Children’s Choir

It was founded in 1996, the first of the choral groups of Cultural Movement EPILOGI of Limassol. It is made up of approximately 50 children, aged between 9-16 years. The Children’s Choir has taken part in numerous choral Festivals, concerts and other events, both in Cyprus and abroad. It has performed in Italy (2000, 2008), in Greece (Zakynthos, Polygyros, Rhodes, Nafplio, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens (2004), in Hungary (2005, 2010), Serbia (2006), France (2006, 2012) and the Czech Republic (2007).

The choir has been awarded with bronze medals at International Competitions in Prague (2007) and Nafplio (2016).

In the Fall of 2007 the choir participated in the production of “Carmina Burana” at KYPRIA International Festival, in collaboration with soloists from Hungary, together with other choirs from Cyprus. It has taken part in the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Concert in December 2008, where together with the EPILOGI Youth Choir and the “Fulda Cathedral Youth Choir” presented “Mass of the Children” by Rutter, in a nationwide premiere. In December 2013, together with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, the choir participated in the production “The Selfish Giant”.

The Children’s Choir has collaborated with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation’s Symphony Orchestra, the Budapest Concert Orchestra and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, with Conductors G. Pylarinos, Notis Georgiou, Franz Peter Huber, Francois Duchamp, Sotiris Alevizos, Viasheslav Vollich, Alkis Baltas, and Konstantinos Diminakis.

The choir’s repertoire includes classical works from the Renaissance up to present, works of contemporary International, Greek and Cypriot composers, as well as cover versions of traditional songs.

The Choir’s conductor since 2003 is Angelina Nicolaidou.

EPILOGI “Music Workshop”

The “Music Workshop” is one of the choral groups of Cultural Movement “EPILOGI” of Limassol.

It was founded in 2005, aiming to gradually bring younger children in contact with polyphonic choral music, and to prepare them for a smooth integration to the EPILOGI “Children’s Choir”.

EPILOGI “Music Workshop” is made up of children aged between 7-11years.

Since its founding day the “Music Workshop” has taken part in various events and concerts.

“Piccolo” children’s workshop

 

 

The Music preparatory group “Piccolo” is addressed to preschool aged children (from the age of 4). Through music games and a variety of activities, emphasizing on singing, children get to know the wondrous world of Music, as well as forming the basis for further Music education by learning Solfège and Music theory, vocal training and more.

 

It is the “nursery” for the two other groups of Cultural Movement “EPILOGI” of Limassol, the “Music Workshop” and the “Children’s Choir”.
